Wattif Acquires Housing Cooperatives Portfolio from Mer

Mer is selling the Norwegian portion of its business related to charging in housing cooperatives to Wattif EV. With this agreement, Wattif strengthens its position as the largest player within charging for housing cooperatives, while Mer is ready to focus on other business areas.

Bergen, 23 August 2024: The charging company Mer, a subsidiary of Statkraft, has established itself as a leading provider in both the private and public charging markets in Norway. After securing a market-leading position and building a robust customer portfolio, Mer has decided to discontinue its services for housing cooperatives and condominiums. This strategic shift will allow the company to focus on public fast charging and the business market.

“We in Mer believe our customers in housing cooperatives will be better served by a company specialising in this specific segment. The time has come to allow this part of our business to grow under new ownership,” says Nicholai Sheridan Jørgensen, CEO of Mer Norway.

“Wattif is already the largest charging operator for housing cooperatives in Europe, and by far the leader in Norway, with 100,000 unique users every month. We are eager to continue developing this business area and to keep delivering solutions that customers love,” says Celine Troye Hopsdal, General Manager of Wattif Norway.

Continued Benefits for Customers

Mer has entered into an agreement with the Norwegian charging company Wattif, which will now take over the customers and infrastructure related to Norwegian housing cooperatives. Existing customers will retain several benefits, including a 10 percent discount on fast charging until 2025.

“The transition of customer relationships from Mer to Wattif is being handled smoothly. Wattif is a large, well-established player that we trust will continue to provide top-tier service to our customers,” adds Sheridan Jørgensen.

Europe’s Largest Charging Operator for Housing Cooperatives

Wattif is one of Europe’s largest destination charging companies, operating 35,000 charging points across six countries. The company has rapidly expanded, offering innovative solutions that make it convenient to charge where you park. With the backing of a leading green infrastructure fund, Wattif is investing in a sustainable future.

“We’ve had a productive and collaborative dialogue with Mer to ensure a seamless transition for customers. Mer’s decision to choose Wattif underscores the quality of our solutions for the private market. We are excited to welcome Mer’s customers to Wattif,” says Celine Troye Hopsdal, General Manager of Wattif Norway.
